Russell Schultz is a self-taught whipmaker based in Canberra, Australia. Since 1987, he has been handcrafting whips for collectors and performers in Australia and all over the world. With a reputation for being a plaiting perfectionist, Russell has been described as “one of the finest in the business” by Australian whipcracking expert and rodeo showman, John Brady.

 

In collaboration with John, Russell created the popular Brady Signature Line of bullwhips. While the Brady-style bullwhips are all handmade with kangaroo leather, Russell also skillfully produces stockwhips in both kangaroo hide and cow hide – made to order. A matched pairs specialist, Russell enjoys the art of whipmaking. He pours all of his energy and plaiting experience into every whip.

 

From his unassuming suburban workshop, Russell has become one of the stars of the whipmaking scene. Russell’s custom whips have been used by acclaimed performers and in well-known productions, through his long-standing relationship with Western Stage Props and other suppliers.

 

He is a proud member of the Australian Plaiters and Whipmakers Association.
